WOODEN BEINGS: Little People Telling Big Stories are individually crafted, by Spike Carlsen in his workshop in Stillwater, Minnesota—a twig’s throw from the St. Croix River. Every Wooden Being is one-of-a-kind in regards to what they’re made of, what they’re doing and who they’re made for. Most of the woods are unique in some way: from fallen urban trees, old oak barn timbers, corn cribs; pianos and trees with character..
Wooden Beings can be fun, functional or “filosophical.” Some are climbing to achieve a goal; others are celebrating an accomplishment, hobby, or special occasion; some are even asking “Will you marry me?”
You can find Wooden Beings scaling walls, rappelling down cliffs, reading, hiking, skateboarding or playing an instrument. Other times you’ll discover them hard at work as bookends, business card holders cards, message board caretakers.
If you don’t see a Wooden Being that meets your needs in the GALLERY or STORE, connect with Spike—he can custom make Wooden Beings from a variety of woods, in a variety of genders and poses, engaged in a variety of activities.
